If you are invited by a member, you are welcome to play at MLTC, a playing fee of £6 would be asked and you would be able to play three times (with member present). After that you would be asked to join the club and any money you had paid for sessions would be deducted from your joining fee.

Yes there are plenty of opportunities to play social tennis. Monday morning 10 – 12 noon+, Tuesday evening 6:30pm +, Thursday mornings 10am – 12 noon +, Thursday evening 6:30 +, Sunday mornings from 10am to 12 noon +.
On most bank holidays we hold an “American Tournament” which is as much of a social gathering as a competition. For the competitive, we hold three tournaments each year, Vets, Open and handicap, where you can meet and play against other members you might not normally come across.
As you get to know other members you may be invited to play outside of “social tennis” and there is also the opportunity to arrange singles or doubles matches on a regular basis yourself, you will have access to our on-line booking system and so can reserve a court for a time that suits you.
Margate Lawn Tennis Club has a thriving junior section which has grown from having 20 or so members 10 years ago to over 120 today. This has been achieved through implementing a structured coaching programme with qualified coaches, as well as part qualified juniors who have “come through the ranks”. Sessions are designed to be fun, but instructional.
If your child is interested in playing tennis then:
If she/he has little or no experience of tennis or is under 8yrs or so then come along to one of our training sessions on a Monday or Thursday ** at 4:30pm OR Saturday at 10am
If he/she has played a bit of tennis or is over 10yrs then bring them along to our later sessions at 5:30** (11am on Sat)
These hour long sessions cost £4 and are open to all juniors, just “drop in”
Your child may attend four sessions without membership, after which they will be asked to join the club for a small fee (session fees still apply)
** During school holidays Monday and Thursday coaching is replaced by Holiday Clinics which run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 3pm and cost £15. (your child will need to bring a packed lunch, water, hat and sun-cream)
A few parents have asked for help with encouraging their child to start playing friendly matches outside of our own club. 'Match Play' is an ideal opportunity for your child to take part in friendly matches against children from our area.
Our closest match plays are held at Polo Farm Canterbury, which is easy to get to and offers indoor and outdoor facilities. Their matchplays are usually Saturday afternoons. I have attached a link to these, including red, orange, green and yellow ball events. The organiser of these is Nick Wibberley who is helpful should you need any guidance.
Prices vary, if you are a beginner or have just joined our club then you may be entitled to a free “Rusty Racquets” programme, 1 hour per week for 6 weeks.
