2019 Finals – progress so far – All but one!

The weather forecast on the morning of the 27th was for showers, possibly clear in afternoon
followed by rain in evening and continual rain for Sunday.  On that basis the finalist turned up
and “got on with it”. Well done all and thanks to the many spectators who turned up despite
the forecasts and the gloomy weather.

Play is to continue on Sunday 28th July at 2pm.  The mens doubles was halted at 2-2 in the first set, so, everything
to play for!  Following the mens doubles will be the mixed doubles.

Update Sunday 28th 18:00:
Gavid Vickers & Jack Pegden won the Mens Doubles & Gavid Vickers and Lynn Giles won the Mixed Doubles

Alfie Garratt, James Wright
“Some of the best tennis I’ve seen at the club” (anonymous member).
Well Done James Wright who beat Alfie Garratt 6-3, 7-5 in a real battle of big hitting and pacey court coverage.

Lynn Giles, Joc, Jo & Carla Warden
Lynn & Joc won 7-5, 6-1.

Gavid Vickers, Lynn Giles, Lesley Wright & James Wright
Gavid & Lynn won 6-4, 6-4

Gavid Vickers Jack Pegden, David Whitehead, Bob Whitehead
Rain stopped play on Sat 27th at 3pm.
Men’s Doubles Champions 2019 are Gavid and Jack in a hard fought match 6-4 6-7 6-2
against runners up Bob and Dave

Martin Lawford, Tony Debling
An epic tussle between Martin Lawford and new member Tony Debling, they were up on court 5 and were occasionaly

visited by spectators who were rewarded with some dogged tennis from two players who wouldn’t give up.
Someone had to win and it was the younger Martin who managed to finish the job, well done both!

If a picture paints a thousand words, unfortunately the rain did get very heavy at around 3pm
which caused total cessation of play and for the author (myself) to go and collect my offspring from
another rain sodden venue, hence this incomplete report. Check back for final final scores and more info.
