This bank holiday was a little bit different because all funds raised have been set aside for the Sadie Bristow Foundation. An organisation set up after the tragic death of Sadie Bristow who suffered an anaphylactic shock . Sadie was an extremely talented 9 year old who had won many tennis competitions and come to the notice of both regional and national authorities. The foundation will use its resources to promote junior tennis and also raise allergy awareness.
Not everybody played, some just relaxed and watched some excellent tennis
On the day we had one of the biggest turnouts for an American for a long while. Various spectators came and went, all six courts were in use and several players had to sit out at least one round. The womens overall winner was Liz Gallivan and the men’s Simon, the youth section was won by Jack Pegden – no stranger to having a medal wrapped round his neck.

Cakes were on sale throughout the day, as was Sadie Bristow merchandise. At lunchtime hotdogs were provided by Keith Clark, and after the competition there was a raffle for an assortment of prizes ranging from bubbly wine to a free MOT for your car. In all over £250 was raised, a fantastic effort by the club and warmly appreciated by Clare Bristow (Sadie’s mum) who kindly turned up to help and was given the honour of randomly picking out the wimbledon ballot winners from a box!
